Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026. This policy explains how Zsolar ("we", "us", "our") handles your personal data under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and the DPDP Rules, 2025. Most of the Act's duties apply from May 2027; we follow them now. Please read it with our Terms of Service.

1. Who we are

Zsolar (zsolar.in) is a private online enquiry service that connects homeowners and businesses with government-empanelled solar installers. We are the Data Fiduciary for the personal data you share with us, which means we decide how it is used and we are answerable to you for it. We are a private business and are not affiliated with MNRE, PM Surya Ghar, UPNEDA or any government body. For any privacy question, contact our Grievance Officer (Section 11).

2. What personal data we collect

We only collect what we need to help you. When you send an enquiry (through the website form or WhatsApp), we collect your name, mobile number, district, property type (for example own house, shop or factory) and your monthly electricity bill range. If you email or message us, we keep that conversation. We do not ask for and do not want your Aadhaar, bank details, passwords or any government-portal login.

The website itself sets no cookies and runs no analytics today. If we add analytics later, it will be limited to pages viewed and approximate region, and we will update this policy first. If you contact us on WhatsApp, WhatsApp (Meta) also processes that message under its own privacy policy.

3. The purposes we use it for

Your data is used only to: understand what you need and give you an indicative price, subsidy and savings estimate; pass your enquiry to suitable installer partners who serve your district; follow up with you about that enquiry over WhatsApp, call or SMS; and improve our guides and service. We do not use it for anything else, and we do not send you unrelated marketing.

4. Our lawful basis: your consent

We use your personal data because you consent, by ticking the box on the form or by sending us a solar enquiry. You can withdraw that consent at any time with one WhatsApp message or email (Section 11), which is as easy as giving it. Withdrawing does not make past use unlawful, but it stops all further use. Section 5 explains exactly what happens, including with installers who already have your details.

5. What happens when you withdraw consent or ask us to delete your data

We know the real question is: "my details have already gone to installers, so how do I take them back?" This is what we do, every time:

  1. We stop. Within 7 days we stop using your data and stop contacting you, and we make our own service providers stop too.
  2. We tell every installer who received your enquiry to stop contacting you and to delete your details. Our agreement with each partner requires them to do this and to confirm to us that it is done.
  3. We tell you who had it. We give you the name of every installer and service provider we shared your enquiry with, so you can also contact them directly if you wish. This is your right under Section 11 of the DPDP Act, and we keep a record of every share so we can always answer it.
  4. We delete our copy, keeping only a short note that you opted out (so you are never contacted again by mistake) and the minimum records the law requires us to keep (see Section 7).

Please note two honest limits. We cannot undo a call or message an installer made before you withdrew. And if you have already asked an installer for a quote, signed with them, or are dealing with them directly, that relationship is between you and that installer, and their own privacy policy applies to it. We will still ask them to stop using the enquiry we sent.

6. Who we share it with

To get you quotes, we share your enquiry with verified installer partners who serve your district. It may go to one or more partners, and if a partner does not respond, we may pass it to another so your request is not left unanswered. We share only the details needed to prepare a quote. Each partner agrees in writing to use your data only to respond to your solar enquiry, to keep it secure, not to resell or reuse it, and to delete it when you withdraw consent. We do not sell your personal data to anyone.

We also use service providers who help us run the service (for example website hosting, form storage and messaging). They act only on our instructions. Some of them may store data on servers outside India, which the DPDP Act allows except for countries the Government restricts. We share data with authorities only where the law requires it.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your enquiry only as long as we need it for the purposes above, and never longer than 18 months after your last contact with us, after which it is deleted or anonymised. If you ask us to delete it sooner, we will (Section 5). The DPDP Rules require us to keep basic processing logs for at least one year; we keep those securely and use them for nothing else.

8. Your rights

Under the DPDP Act you have the right to:

To use any right, message us on WhatsApp or email us. We may ask a simple question to confirm it is really you, so nobody else can get your data. We reply within 30 days at most, well inside the 90-day limit set by the DPDP Rules.

9. How we protect your data

We apply reasonable security safeguards against loss, misuse or unauthorised access, including access controls, encrypted connections (HTTPS), limiting who can see enquiries, and collecting the minimum data needed. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your data, we will tell you without delay, in plain words, with what happened and what you can do, and we will report it to the Data Protection Board as the DPDP Rules require.

10. Children's data

Our service is meant for adults arranging solar for their home or business. We do not knowingly collect data of anyone under 18. If you believe a minor's data has reached us, tell us and we will delete it.

11. Grievance Officer and contact

For any question, request or complaint about your personal data, contact our Grievance Officer:

Email: [email protected]
WhatsApp: message us

We acknowledge every grievance within 48 hours and resolve it within 30 days.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our service or the law changes. The "Last updated" date at the top shows the current version, and we will not reduce your rights without telling you.
